CURTIMENTA ANSELMO MENDES
Anselmo Mendes, known as Mr. Alvarinho, has been studying the varietal for more than 30 years. Like a scientist in a laboratory, he analyzes the different expressions of the varietal from Monção and Melgaço.
From different soils, exposures, altitudes, to different stages, Mr. Alvarinho studies the behavior of the varietal in wooden stage for more than 30 years.
One of the results is Curtimenta, made with older grapes laden with great freshness and good maturation to provide the necessary structure. It undergoes a small fermentation with skins before aging for 9 months on the lees with bâtonnage in French oak.
Providing a wine with a spice aroma with already dried fruit like hazelnut and almond, infinite acidity accompanied by great mouth volume. A distinctive Alvarinho.
Few meals are as pleasurable to me as a Curtimenta with Portuguese seafood rice!
